Which skin type do you have?
Many beauty products identify the skin type they are best for or ones they shouldn’t be used with. So how do you know what skin type you have?
There are five skin types:
- Normal – generally smooth, small pores, and no severe sensitivities
- Dry – rough or dull appearance, small prores, possible red patches, and may crack, itch, or peel
- Oily – shiny appearance, larger pores, and visible blemishes
- Combination – different areas of the skin can be normal, dry, or oily on the same part of the body
- Sensitive – may appear red or dry and can itch or burn
Your skin type determines things like how much hydration it naturally holds, how much oil it products, and how sensitive it is to external conditions and products. For example, normal skin should be washed once or twice a day, where oily skin may need to be washed more often and dry skin may require less frequent washings. Avoid putting harsh chemicals or creams that cause irritation on sensitive areas of the skin. Look for products made without irritants like fragrances and surfactants to help reduce aggravating the skin. No matter what your skin type, it is always recommended to avoid sun exposure.
